Spring Fling 2011

The boys' school held a fund raiser this weekend to benefit various local and national charities. They auctioned off themed baskets of goodies, along with various other donated items. They also had an event at the school with jump houses, and various carnival style games. They have had one every year, but we have always had plans before and been unable to go. So this was our first year to check it out. And the boys really had a good time. We were so glad we went. Of course the boys went straight to the jumpers, and refused to budge even for a cake walk which I thought for sure Ryan would go for given how much he liked the musical chairs games that they played at school around pick up time a couple of weeks ago. Before it was over the boys made the entire circuit of carnival games. It probably helped that they quickly figured out that they were rewarded at every station regardless of how well they did.
The boys made pretty quick work of the first 5 or so games including a numbered rubber ducky game, plinko and various bean bag and hoop tosses. But when we went to the second area and Connor discovered the sandboxes I had my doubts as to whether or not he was ever going to leave the dinosaurs in the sand and visit the rest of the games. Though he did eventually move on lured mostly by the possibility of more prizes.

I have to say both boys were pretty good sports about the games and had a good time trying to do them.

Connor was especially brave and even let them spray paint his hair blue. Ryan on the other hand wasn't so sure about it and chickened out after conning me into getting a pink streak of my own.

Both boys particularly enjoyed the painting tables with the giant gloopy paints and roller dots. Though I am not sure how much paint actually ended up on the paper vs. how much they were both wearing, Connor in particular. I had a moment of panic the first time he smeared the paint on his shirt as I hadn't brought a change of clothes, and I knew we wouldn't have time to run home and change before the birthday party. Luckily he didn't get too much more on him as we had to run the party as we were.
