Dewberry Farm: The Pumpkin Patch

The day was winding down and we still hadn't made it out to the pumpkin patch so before we left we made our way over to get in the line for the hayride to the patch.

The second we set foot off the wagon the boys both went in their own direction.

Connor to check out each pumpkin along the way, and Ryan to just run as far and as fast as he could.

Ryan found Dean again in the pumpkin patch. And while we couldn't get him to sit still for a single picture he was perfectly content to sit next to Dean.

He even picked out a pumpkin for Connor and told him just where to sit.

Before long the boys were off to the races again. They ran up and down the dirt rows in the patch.

Connor occasionally got distracted by a pumpkin. He was so funny checking them out. He would roll them around and knock of them as part of his inspection.

We eventually made our way down the dusty path back from the pumpkin patch. The boys thoroughly enjoyed kicking up the dirt coating us all. By the time we made our way back they were putting the tractors and wagons up for the night. We stopped beside one of the tractors and took a few last pictures before calling it a night.

And in a rare moment of cooperation both of the boys actually looked at the camera and smiled. :)

Waiting

I don't know how the boys didn't just pass out from exhaustion after all the running around they did for the day. But even when they spent a few minutes in the stroller waiting for one thing or another they continued to laugh and play.

When we went to the zoo the boys discovered for the first time that they could see each other through their canopies. They alternated playing peek-a-boo and trying to get each other through the crack.

Dewberry Farm: Hard at Play

There is just so much to see and do at Dewberry Farm. There were animals to see.

And pet.

There were kidilla hoppers to try out for the first time.

To run, jump, and hop on.

And there are giant pipes to crawl through or roll around in.

Or push other people around in.

While the boys were playing with the pipes we happened to run into Ryan's best friend from school Dean.

The boys are just so cute playing together. We all rode the barrel train together. Twice. :)

We put our hands up in the air and screamed as went over the little hills causing all the people behind us on the train to do the same.

Dewberry Farm's Pumpkin Hollarland

In past years Dewberry Farm had an area set up on the other side of the mosquito moat as we liked to call it where after dark you could stroll along side hundreds of carved and lit pumpkins. The only problem with it was that they didn't open it until it was REALLY dark which mean that the kids were long since restless or passed out. This year they moved it to it's own building which is conveniently pitch black 24/7. Connor and I checked it out.

He immediately spotted some characters he recognized including Elmo, Nemo, and Buzz Lightyear.

There was no flash photography allowed and when I say it was dark, it was absolutely pitch black. It took my eyes quite a while to adjust to the lack of light.

I was actually afraid to let go of Connor because I couldn't see well enough to be able to find him again.

The outside walls of the barn were lined with carved pumpkins of various themes. The inside had a big tree and some vignettes of pumpkins.

Connor and I both really enjoyed our visit.

Gratuitous Cuteness

After enjoying the singing chicken show at Dewberry Farm the boys and I packed Kevin off to wait in the long lines for food. We ate. It was good. I took gratuitous cute pictures of the boys. Enjoy.

Randomness from our day

In the school parking lot at pick up:

Ryan (to Dean and his dad all the way across the parking lot): I have a "Pookie buutk!" What do YOU have??
Dean's Dad: [puzzled look] (probably thinking did he just say he had a poopy butt? And why do we need to know this??)
Me: "Yes, You have a SPOOKY BOOK in the car."
Dean: (without missing a beat) "Craatkers."

Tonight I made carmel apples for the first time that I can remember. It was quite an adventure. The secrets of which I will never tell... :) I ate one with carmel and mini peanut butter chips. It was unbelieveably delicious.... I will be making them again.

Dewberry Farm: The Chicken Coop

We managed to coax the boys out of Little Farmersville by promising them that they could go see the chickens.

They LOVE the chickens.

They were absolutely mesmerized by them.

They aren't the only ones. I confess that the chickens are always near the top of my list, too. They are entertaining, and educational. I love the random facts about the chickens, the catchy corny songs, the enjoyment the kids get out of them, and the fact that I get to sit down for 10 minutes in the shade when it is unseasonably warm outside. :)

And of course before we could move we had to take a picture with the pumpkins...

They grow like weeds I tell you.

Don't believe me?? I have proof.

What a difference a year can make. Though these guys were pretty entranced by those same chickens too as I recall...

Look at those faces... So cute... :) Wanna see more? Take a trip down memory lane with me, here.

Dewberry Farm: Little Farmersville

Along with a few million other people we made our yearly fall pilgrimage to Dewberry Farm this weekend.

As it turns out, we arrived before they actually opened despite thinking we were running about an hour late. Next time I should definately check their hours of operation before we go. I should also pay closer attention to clues about something going on (no Groupons this weekend... hint, hint expecting ALOT of people...)

After the drive then having to wait in line to get tickets we decided to hit Little Farmersville first to let the boys run off some energy.

The PVC slide in Little Farmersville is always one of our favorites.

Though Connor decided this year that the drawbridge was just as much fun to slide down for some reason. Probably because I kept trying to convice him that it was NOT a slide.

He assured me that you could indeed slide down it on your bottom whether you inteded to or not.

Connor also enjoyed swinging on the horse swings.

The faster and wilder the better of course.

Also a perinneal favorite is the corn shack.

It's like a giant sandbox, except with corn instead of sand.

I am always surprised by my first step inside. I watch the boys walking around just past ankle deep and am stunned when I sink down up to my knees. Despite the fact that it happens every single time.

Ryan was lured in by the promise of Tonka trucks.

Only he decided he wasn't crazy about all that sinking. And corn. He much preferred to push his truck around on terra firma.

Or actual sand. It gives a little, but doesn't threaten to swallow you whole.

Connor played some hide and seek - first inside the oversized tractor tires then inside the oversized pipe.

Meanwhile Ryan discovered that he still wasn't quite tall enough to reach the tractor pedals.

Neither was Connor.
