Mother's Day

I just realized that I never did tell you guys about Mother's Day! It was actually alot of fun. The boys surprised me with "I love Mom" outfits first thing in the morning. Then they took me to McDonald's to enjoy some hot cakes for breakfast. What a treat! :) Of course we had to check out the playground while we were there, too. Then they humored me with a little trip to Ikea. We got there a few minutes before they actually opened, but their dining room was open so we played in the play area there for a little while. Then we raced around the store in their cool free swiveling carts and finished up the trip with some yummy sweedish meatballs for lunch. The boys napped in the car on the way home. They were so conked out by the morning's adventures that they didn't even wake up when I left them in the car with Kevin while I ran into Sams. We spent the rest of the afternoon with Kevin's family. When we finally made it back home Ryan brought me my card, and I got to open my present - a cute picture frame.

I am so proud of you!

This evening I was sitting in the chair with the boys thinking about going to dinner. I asked the boys where their shoes and socks were. Ryan immediately got down. I assumed he was just going off to play. A few seconds later he returned with one of his shoes. I asked him where the other shoe was and off he went. He disappeared out of sight again and before long he came back with the other shoe. I figured it was probably a fluke, but I asked if he knew where Connor's shoes were and off he went again. A few seconds later he came back with both of Connor's shoes, too!

Half jokingly I asked if he knew where his socks were. Off he went. And lo and behold - when he came back he had both of his socks! I asked for Connor's socks and off he went again. He looked for a while, but apparently couldn't find them. He grabbed Daddy's shoes instead. It was just so cute and I was so amazed. He's gone looking for things and brought them back before, but not typically things that are out of sight or things I am not pointing to.

What a smart, and helpful little guy!

Not to be outdone at dinner time Connor surprised me by drinking out of a straw. He has tried once or twice before, but he really got it this time and did so well! I always tell the boys "Good Job" when they do something like that, and they have both started clapping every time I say it. So tonight at dinner Connor would take a drink out of the straw I would smile and enthusiastically say "Good job!" and he would clap. Ryan joined in on the clapping, too. So cute.

Giraffes

When we got home last night I opened up the boys bag and found these cute little guys hiding inside. The photo doesn't do them justice - they are really adorable.

Rodeo

It wasn't his first rodeo, but it was his first 8 second ride all by himself.

Peanuts

I am not sure if Ryan was doing a Linus impression, or if he was practicing his runway skills to be the next top model. But he wasn't letting go of those towels for anything. :)

Afternoon Tea Party

Daycare had a Mother's Day Tea Party. I would like to say it was nice quiet civilized affair where I got to meet some of the other Moms and had a splendid afternoon enjoying some refreshments and chatting away while the kids played happily. I think that's how someone envisioned it.

In reality I walked in 5 minutes late because I had to park half a mile from the school because there was absolutely no parking. When I arrived the cupcake demolition had already begun. The boys were already wearing half of theirs. There were only 3 other moms in attendance. Though in their defense at least two of the other Mom's had older children and took their younger children with them to the bigger kids classroom. I didn't get to meet a single one.

I spent most of the time trying to get Connor to sit back down and keep his brownie and icing covered hands off of me (I love you, too, sweetie, but please finish your snack (and get cleaned up!) before you give me hugs!), while simultaneously trying to get Ryan to stop trying to steal the other children's food, quit throwing his sippy cup, stop trying to eat the food off the floor, and in general stay out of trouble. And I would say it was a whopping 2 minutes after I arrived when everyone else left - run out by the chaos and the icing clad hands I imagine. And unless you count the chocolate brownie on my pants and the water spot from Ryan's sippy after the valve dislodged after he threw it for the umpteenth time I didn't even get to enjoy some nice refreshment.

Despite all that I was glad I made it in time to see the chocolate covered smiles of delight when I walked in the door. They don't give those half eaten cake bite smiles to just anyone you know. They save those Just. For. Me. Because I am their Mom of course. And I love them bedecked in cake and all. :)

What's for dinner?

How about some spaghetti? So technically it was some corkscrew pasta, but that didn't make it any less messy. :)

Who Me?

Don't let that angelic little face fool you, he's often up to no good. :)

Nothing but Net

Ryan has some mad hoops skillz. He plays a pretty mean defense - he puts his hands up in the air to block shots like he was born to play D. His offense is top notch, too. Given the ball he takes it straight to the net. At a whopping 31" the boy can dunk! And the crowd goes WILD! GO RYAN!!
